Fort Dodge Police respond to early morning shooting, stabbing

Diekman sought for shooting

A pair of violent incidents early Friday morning that sent two individuals to the hospital were unrelated, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department.

According to Police Chief Dennis Quinn, officers were called to 1433 Fourth Ave. S at 4:06 a.m.. Upon arrival, officers found a male with a gunshot wound to the face inside the residence. The man was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Quinn stated that his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Dontay B. Diekman, 41, of Fort Dodge, in connection to the shooting. Diekman is currently at large and has been charged with attempt to commit murder, going armed with intent, and possession of a firearm as a felon.

According to Quinn, Diekman should be considered armed and dangerous.

“At this time, it does not appear as though this shooting incident is connected in any way to the shooting that took place on Thursday,” said Quinn in a press release. “This investigation is ongoing.”

One man was shot in a leg in a Thursday evening incident in the 400 block of North 10th Street.

The shooting was not the only violent incident police dealt with early Friday morning. Just hours later at 6 a.m., officers received a call that a male had been stabbed at 414 S. 16th Street.

Officers responded to the scene and found the man with multiple stab wounds to his waistline. The man was treated on scene by paramedics with the Fort Dodge Fire Department and transported to Unity Point Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center by ambulance. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The incident remains under investigation, though Quinn said it does not appear that the assault took place at 414 S. 16th St.

“At this point in time, it is not believed that this incident is related to the two recent shooting investigations in any way,” said Quinn. “Investigators and patrol officers are continuing to gather information at this point and the investigation is ongoing Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Fort Dodge Police.
