DAYTON — Multiple headstones at the Dayton Cemetery were damaged after being hit by a vehicle recently.
According to Webster County Deputy Sheriff April Murray, three headstones were pushed off of their cement bases. Also, vases and items left on the headstones were damaged.
An investigation into the damages is ongoing, though Murray said she could not state yet if the damages were intentional or if someone accidentally backed into them. The exact date and time that the damage occurred is also unknown.
The gravestones are located in the northwest section of the Dayton Cemetery. Deep tire tracks in the mud were also found nearby. According to Webster County Chief Deputy Derek Christie, a tire print was pulled near the damaged stones.
Anyone with information about the damage to the headstones is asked to contact the Webster County Sheriff’s Office at 515-573-2323, reference case 25-0111.
