Man arrested for attack on woman
A Fort Dodge man has been jailed on multiple charges after beating and robbing a woman, according to court records.
Malaki T. Gines, 19, has been arrested and charged with:
• First degree robbery
• Domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury
• Assault committed by a person against whom a protective order is issued
• First degree harassment
• False imprisonment
• Violation of a no contact order
According to criminal complaints filed against him, Gines went to an apartment in the 100 block of Avenue M West at about 3 p.m. Feb. 7, where he assaulted and threatened a woman. The attack included head butting, punching, biting and strangling, the complaints state. When the woman tried to escape, Gines dragged her back into the apartment as she screamed for help, the complaints state.
According to the complaint, Gines told the woman “If you’re going to leave me, I’m going to rob you.” He also reportedly told her that he would “chop you up into pieces and bury you in my mother’s backyard.”
Gines was arrested Thursday by Webster County sheriff’s deputies. He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday.
Magistrate William Habhab scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 31. He also set bond at $38,000 cash only.
That case is not the only legal trouble Gines faces. He also is charged with fifth degree theft for reportedly stealing a hooded sweatshirt from Walmart, 3036 First Ave. S. Habhab postponed action on that case for 180 days while the more serious charges against him move forward.
