Man shot in Fort Dodge

Police continue investigation

Fort Dodge firefighters and paramedics treat a man suffering from a gunshot wound Thursday evening. The man was found in the front yard of a home in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue North, but he was apparently shot not far away in the 400 block of North 10th Street.

One man was injured in a shooting in Fort Dodge Thursday evening.

The man suffered a single gunshot wound to one leg, according to the Fort Dodge Police Department. He was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Police reported that his injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

The incident remained under investigation by police Thursday night.

At about 5:23 p.m., Webster County 911 dispatchers received a report of gunshots in the 400 block of North 10th Street.

Upon arriving in the area, officers and Webster County sheriff’s deputies found the injured man in the front yard of a home in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue North, which is just north and west of the spot where the gunfire was reported. He was treated at the scene there by firefighters and paramedics before being loaded into the ambulance.

The 400 block of North 10th Street became the focal point of the investigation, with multiple officers working there to interview witnesses and collect evidence. The southern half of the block was cordoned off with yellow police line tape.

The Fort Dodge police and fire departments, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Webster County Attorney’s Office responded to the shooting. Some of the police officers and firefighters responded to the shooting from the scene of a crash on North 22nd Street.
