Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Monson has been paired with the county’s newest K9, Iza, a German shepherd, Malinois mix from Poland. Iza has been trained in narcotics, tracking, and suspect apprehension.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a new four-legged deputy on patrol.
Iza, a 17-month-old German shepherd/Malinois mix, will soon join the department as Webster County’s newest K9.
Iza has been reserved for the department through Tree Town Kennels in Forest City. She is originally from Poland and has been trained in narcotics, tracking, and suspect apprehension. Iza will be partnered with Deputy Colton Monson.
“We are beyond excited for the opportunity to build our K9 unit,” said Webster County Chief Deputy Derek Christie. “Our current K9 duo, Deputy Holbrook and Stano, stay very busy on patrol and receive constant calls for assistance while off-duty. Deputy Monson and Iza will alleviate some of those phone calls and add additional support for our Webster County Drug Task Force.”
The Sheriff’s Office has been fundraising for the newest K9 and still needs to raise around $18,000. Once fully funded, Monson and Iza will train with Tree Town Kennels for four weeks prior to going out on patrol.
For those interested in donating to the K9 fund, handler training, equipment, and ongoing care, checks can be made to the Fort Dodge Community Foundation, memo WCSO K9 fund or by Venmo to @ FortDodgeCFUW, memo WCSO K9.
“We cannot express enough gratitude to our local individuals and businesses who have already donated,” added Christie.
