Hackfort stabbed victim, set home on fire
PATON — A Greene County man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing an individual and later setting a residence on fire Tuesday afternoon.
Devin Christopher Hackfort, 28, of Paton, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree harassment, second-degree arson, and two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams, shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, a man called the county dispatch center to report that he had been stabbed while in the 300 block of State Street in Paton. The victim stated that he was on his way to the Greene County Medical Center.
While at the hospital, the victim told deputies that Hackfort had stabbed him and also threatened to set his home on fire.
When deputies arrived, the home was on fire and Hackfort fled the scene. He was located on U Avenue and 185th Street, but refused to stop for deputies. He fled the scene in a vehicle and returned to the 300 block of State Street where deputies were able to take him into custody.
Hackford remains in the Greene County Jail.
The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate the fire at the residence.
