A man found dead in front of a Fort Dodge building apparently fell out of a window from a burning third floor apartment, Fort Dodge police reported.

Police and firefighters were initially dispatched to 1035 First Ave. S. at 12:18 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. They found a man laying in front of a building that had a fire burning in a third-floor apartment.

Further investigation revealed that the man was not shot.
