Shimkat promoted within Small Business Administration
New jobs take her to Washington, D.C.
A Fort Dodge woman has been named to two top positions in the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Lisa Shimkat has been appointed associate administrator for field operations and acting associate administrator for the Office of International Trade. Both positions are based in Washington, D.C.
Her appointment was announced Monday by the Iowa Small Business Development Center.
She was most recently the state director of America’s Small Business Development Center Iowa. She held that position since 2014. Before that, she managed a regional Small Business Development Center in Fort Dodge.
During her tenure as state director, the Small Business Development Centers in Iowa:
• Assisted more than 24,000 entrepreneurs and small business owners.
• Supported the launch of 2,500 new businesses.
• Helped create more than 18,000 new jobs.
• Secured more than $900 million in capital for small businesses.
• Generated $1.5 billion in sales revenue.
Shimkat has served as chairwoman of the America’s Small Business Development Center Board of Directors.
She has received the Rand Fisher Rural Leadership Award and the Woman of Influence Award from Business Record. She was inducted into the Iowa Central Community College Hall of Fame.
She is a former member of the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education.
She played a leading role in starting Coats for Kids, a partnership between Shimkat Motor Co. and the Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, which distributes coats and other winter clothing to local children.
