Webster City teen killed in tractor accident

Investigation is ongoing

WEBSTER CITY — A Webster City teen was killed in a crash Friday morning while driving to school.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Logan Baldwin, 16, was driving a farm tractor southbound on White Fox Road and 203rd Street in Hamilton County at about 6:30 a.m. A 2007 Toyota driven by 69-year-old Brian VanDeer, of Webster City, was also southbound and struck the rear end of Baldwin’s tractor, sending it into the ditch and overturning it.

Baldwin was thrown from the tractor and died at the scene from his injuries.

Webster City School Superintendent Matt Berninghaus issued a statement Friday morning stating “I ask that we all support one another as we grieve together as a school community. Please join me in keeping the student’s family and friends in our thoughts.”

Berninghaus stated that counselors are available for students at each of the district’s schools.

VanDeer was taken to VanDiest Medical Center in Webster City for injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Webster City Police, Webster City Fire Department, and Van Diest Medical Center Emergency Medical Service.
