Court of Appeals upholds Mosley verdict

Serving life in prison for 2022 Christmas Day shooting

Lakendrick Mosley

The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the first degree murder conviction of a Fort Dodge man.

Lakendrick A. Mosley was convicted of first-degree murder in October 2023 for the 2022 Christmas Day murder of Montreail Dungy.

Prosecutors argued that Mosley shot Dungy, 46, four times at point-blank range while he sat in his car in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue Southwest at about 3 a.m. Dec. 25, 2022.

Mosley appealed the sentence, citing lack of sufficient evidence, specifically pointing to cell phone data, video images and lack of a murder weapon.

However, the Iowa Court of Appeals issued an opinion Wednesday stating that “when the evidence and inferences drawn from it are viewed in the light most favorable to the State, sufficient evidence supports the jury’s verdict. Accordingly, we affirm Mosley’s conviction for murder in the first degree.”

Mosley had also previously asked for a new trial in 2023, which was denied. He is currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole.
