FD school board OKs budget

Recognizes outgoing director of educational services, Davidson

Fort Dodge Community School financial director Brandon Hansel presented the final 2025-2026 budget during Monday’s meeting.

The group approved adopting it overall along with a resolution for the measure. The numbers are set at better than $70.35 million in revenue and just over $76.67 million in expenses.

“The difference is due to finishing off paying for the construction of the Dodger Stadium locker room and other projects,” Hansel said. “The resolution is for an additional tax levy of $512,000 regarding declining enrollment.”

Hansel also guided the board through the March update of the 2024-2025 financial reports. They showed revenue of nearly $33 million and expenses at under $32 million.

“Overall, we are sitting in great shape coming down the year’s home stretch,” he said.

In other action items, the board:

• Heard from district maintenance director Ryan Utley on the bids for four new trucks for the district. They approved the low bid from Fort Dodge Ford for three three-quarter ton units with two going to maintenance and one for transportation and one half-ton vehicle for technology.

• Approved an amendment to the 2025-2026 school calendar for various dates. Superintendent Josh Porter spotlighted the Homecoming 2025 date of Oct. 17 among them.

• Approved authorizing the redemption of general obligation school bonds, Series 2016, dated May 11, 2016, and levying a tax for fiscal year 2026 for the redemption of general obligation school bonds, Series 2016, dated May 11, 2016.

• Approved adopting an amendment to the 2024-2025 certified budget.

• Approved the first reading of several school policies.

The board recognized outgoing executive director of educational services Aaron Davidson who is taking a position with the Clear Creek-Amana district as superintendent.

“I’m so excited for his opportunity,” Porter said. “(Clear Creek-Amana) is getting a good one. We appreciate all he has done.”

“We, as a board, thank you for your hard work,” said Board President Dan Altman.
