Traffic moves through the intersection of Kenyon Road and Avenue C Friday afternoon. Construction crews will begin building medians there on Tuesday to create left turn lanes.
The second phase of work on the Kenyon Road and Avenue C intersection project will begin on Tuesday as contractors work to install and reconstruct medians to channel traffic and create protected left-turn lanes.
According to Fort Dodge City Engineer Austin Morrow, traffic control measures will be in place during construction, including the closure of the left lane in each direction of the intersection.
Avenue C will remain open and accessible throughout the project, which should take approximately one month, depending on weather.
Once the intersection work is complete, the Iowa Department of Transportation will then begin work on the northeast-bound bridges along Kenyon Road.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as we continue to make improvements to enhance safety and the flow of traffic in the area,” said Morrow.
The Kenyon Road intersection project began in August 2024 with the widening of the roadway to create protected left turn lanes on Kenyon Road for motorists turning onto Avenue C.
Castor Construction, of Fort Dodge, was hired by the City Council in March 2024 to complete the project at a cost of $1,291,770.69.
