Iowa Central Community College hosted more than 700 middle school students and staff from across the region for Middle School Visit Day on Thursday.

Held twice a year, this spring’s visit welcomed groups from Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Southeast Valley, Perry, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Greene County, East Sac County, and Paton Churdan. The students filled the halls, classrooms, and activity spaces across campus, engaging in hands-on experiences and interactive presentations led by Iowa Central faculty, staff, and student ambassadors.

From STEM and health sciences to the arts and career tech programs, students had the opportunity to explore a variety of academic pathways through engaging activities. Many tried out welding, explored health labs, or even caught a behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting and digital media production. The visit was designed not only to showcase the college’s facilities and programs, but to help young students visualize their futures in education and beyond.

“This day is all about planting the seed,” said Shelby Illg, assistant director of admissions. “By giving middle schoolers a chance to experience college in a fun and interactive way, we’re helping them see that higher education is within reach, right here in their home community.”

In addition to the academic exploration, students enjoyed lunch, campus tours, and had plenty of time to ask questions about college life.
