Searchers find body of man in Hamilton County

ELLSWORTH — A body believed to be that of a missing Texas man was found in southern Hamilton County Friday afternoon.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reported that searchers found what they believe to be the body of 31-year-old Marcus A. Taylor in a building on a rural acreage about a mile from the site of a vehicle accident that occurred on April 8.

In the report, Sheriff Alex Pruisman said it appears that the man “made his way to this structure after the car accident to try and find shelter.”

Taylor had not been reported as missing to local authorities when the crash occurred.

No foul play is suspected in the man’s death, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

Taylor was reported to be traveling from Fort Worth, Texas, to Wisconsin to visit a critically ill relative.

Taylor’s vehicle was spotted on April 8 in Missouri, where a license plate reader recorded it.

His vehicle was found wrecked later that day along Interstate 35 near the Ellsworth exit. Searchers could not find him that day.

Searchers on Friday converged on the Interstate 35 corridor in southern Hamilton County. Star 1 Search and Rescue, a Story County unit that uses dogs and horses to conduct searches, played a key role.

Other agencies involved in the search were the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Ellsworth Fire Department and Hamilton County Emergency Management.

Starting at $2.99/week.
