What’s in a street name: Charles Street

Charles Street extends for about two blocks between Third Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North in a neighborhood north of downtown Fort Dodge.

It is named in honor of the son of the man who built the original houses along that street.

After World War I ended in 1918, there was a housing shortage in Fort Dodge. Charles Fritz was one of the builders who went to work constructing homes to meet that need.

He was permitted to name the street Charles Street after his son, who was also named Charles Fritz.

The younger Charles Fritz also became a builder, and he was busy putting up homes to meet the demand for housing after World War II ended in 1945.

Starting at $2.99/week.
