Controlled burns planned at Brushy

LEHIGH — Prescribed burning will be conducted in Brushy Creek State Recreation Area through May, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Detailed burn plans are created for each area, and safety is always the No. 1 consideration in the timing of each burn, the department reported.

Fire is a land management tool that is used to improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential.

Smoke from these controlled burns will be highly visible and some smoke may be dispersed over some nearby homes, the department reported.

Anyone who has questions or would like to be notified before a burn day can call the Department of Natural Resources Prairie Resource Unit at (515) 543-8319.

Starting at $2.99/week.
