FD teen faces robbery, theft charges
A Fort Dodge teenager has been arrested for hitting a man and taking his phone.
Derrien D. McElroy, 17, of 248 Ave. D, was arrested by Fort Dodge police and charged with second degree robbery and first degree theft.
According to criminal complaints filed against him, McElroy assaulted a man, causing injuries, and took an Apple iPhone 15 valued at $1,200, plus other property. The robbery happened at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in an apartment at 707 Seventh Ave. N, the complaints state.
The case against McElroy was moved to adult court, and he made his initial appearance in court Wednesday morning.
Magistrate Sarah J.Livingston set McElroy’s bond at $30,000, cash only.
His preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 6. Livingston also issued a no contact order, directing him to stay away from the reported victim of the robbery or risk arrest.
