Fort Dodge man charged with sexual abuse

A Fort Dodge man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old, according to court records.

Shawn M. Kirkegaard, 34, of 1138 S. 20th St. was arrested by Fort Dodge police and charged with two counts of second degree sexual abuse and two counts of lasicivious acts, touch genitals to any part of a child’s body, criminal complaints filed against him state.

The abuse occurred on Oct. 23.

Kirkegaard was arrested at about 8:12 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of South 16th Street and made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning.

His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 22.

Magistrate William H. Habhab set Kirkegaard’s bond at $70,000 cash only.

He also issued an order directing Kirkegaard to have no contact with the 13-year-old or their family.
