Man gets probation in burglary, assault case
A Fort Dodge man has been ordered to serve probation and pay civil penalties after pleading guilty in an October burglary and assault case.
Cameron J. Hartley, 37, of 440 Third St. N.W., pleaded guilty to third degree burglary and assault on persons in certain occupations. A charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness was dismissed.
According to the criminal complaints filed against him, Hartley broke into a home in the 300 block of Fourth Street Northwest at about 4:50 a.m. Oct. 4. He forced his way in through a bathroom window, the complaints state.
After he was chased out of the house, he put his hands on the throat of a woman who lived there and applied pressure, according to the criminal complaints.
Fort Dodge police arrived and arrested Hartley.
Because he suffered several cuts while forcing his way through the bathroom window, police took him to the emergency room at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. There, he kicked a health care provider in the abdomen, according to the criminal complaints.
Court records indicate that for the third degree burglary charge, Hartley was ordered to serve two years of probation and pay a $1,025 civil penalty.
For the assault on persons in certain occupations charge, he was ordered to serve two years of probation and pay a $430 civil penalty.
Hartley received a deferred judgment, which means if he successfully completes his probation and pays all civil penalties he will not have a criminal record.
