Small fire ignited in Fort Dodge apartment
A fire that was apparently started by a woman experiencing a mental health crisis smoked up a Fort Dodge apartment Tuesday evening.
No one was injured and there was minimal damage.
The fire in the apartment building at 707 Seventh Ave. N., was reported at about 5 p.m.
Fire Department Lt. Tom Ubben said a woman with psychiatric issues turned on all four burners on the stove in her apartment, igniting combustible material on the stove. He said another person in the apartment put the fire out with water and unplugged the stove.
The woman was taken into custody by Fort Dodge police and was transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in a police vehicle.
Ubben said the damage was limited to the stove.
Seventh Avenue North between Seventh and Ninth streets was closed to traffic while emergency personnel worked at the scene.
Webster County sheriff’s deputies assisted city police and firefighters.
