Man jailed in sex abuse case

A Fort Dodge man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old over the course of a year.

Joshua J. Jacobsma, 45, of 1338 Third Ave. N.W., was arrested by Fort Dodge police and charged with three counts of second degree sexual abuse and three counts of lascivious acts with a child, court records show.

The assaults on the child occurred between January 2023 and January 2024, according to criminal complaints filed against Jacobsma.

He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning. Magistrate Sarah J. Livingston scheduled a preliminary hearing for him for April 28.

She also issued an order prohibiting Jacobsma from contacting the victim. He would face additional criminal charges if he violated that order.

Livingston set bond for Jacobsma at $105,000.
