DORIS ANDERSON

DORIS ANDERSON

Doris Colleen Lemon Anderson, 90, of Frisco, Texas, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020.

Doris was born July 19, 1930 in Webster City, Iowa and spent her early years in Duncombe, Homer, and Fort Dodge. Doris was the second of four children of Roy and Lucile Lemon. Her brothers Clifford and Don and sister Betty all preceded her in death.

Doris graduated from Duncombe High School in 1948 then went on to nurses training at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. She then worked at Lutheran Hospital (now Trinity Regional Medical Center) as a registered nurse until 1959.

An avid golfer, Doris competed in several state and local tournaments, amassing an impressive collection of trophies. She also participated in five of the early Register’s Annual Great Bike Rides Across Iowa.

Doris met Walter Anderson in 1954 on the #9 green of the Fort Dodge Country Club and after a four year courtship they were married. During their 46-year marriage they were blessed with three sons: Joel, 60, who now resides in Houston, Texas; Jon, 57, now residing in Bastrop, Texas; and James (Bo), 55, now residing in Frisco, Texas. Doris leaves behind two grandchildren, Lisett and Edgar.

She and Walt were devoted members of the First Covenant Church where Doris participated in the Ladies Society and sang in the choir, performing occasional solos. She was also a member of the Webster County Historical Society and from there helped found the Webster County Genealogical Society. During that time she travelled throughout the county copying the gravestones from 63 cemeteries.

In the early 1980’s Walt and Doris joined the ranks of Winter Texas and began spending the winter months in their second home in Donna, Texas, until Walt’s death in 2005. Shortly thereafter Doris moved to the North Dallas region to be nearer to her sons.

Among her hobbies in the later years were knitting and crocheting. She found particular joy in making hats and giving them away to friends, family, cancer patients, and complete strangers. She also developed a knack for creating SpongeBob SquarePants scarves, bedspreads, and purses.

Doris will be laid to rest in North Lawn Cemetery next to her husband Walt. At this time there are no plans for any formal ceremonies. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
