F. Richard “Dick” Laurent, 86, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Friendship Haven.
Family services will be held at the Tompkins Celebration Center at Friendship Haven. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Dick is survived by his wife Jeniece (Jan); his daughters, Sherri (Bruce) Babcock, Des Moines: Monica (Paul Roskowitz) Laurent, Cottage Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Babcock, Tyler Roskowitz; and his sister Barbara Schulze, Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leila Wilson, and brothers-in-law, Vincent Wilson and Roger Schulze.
Francis Richard Laurent, the son of Francis and Edna (Ekstrom) Laurent, was born January 10, 1936, Newark Township, Webster County. He attended school at Vincent and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. Dick attended Iowa Central Community College and then served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Following his discharge, he completed his education at Iowa Central and received his Associates of Arts degree. On November 4, 1961, Dick was united in marriage to Jeniece Ryan in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Badger for 20 years before moving to Fort Dodge. He was employed as a printer for Land O’Lakes for 29 years until his retirement.
Richard was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Lakeside Golf Course. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, traveling throughout the United States, and gardening.
Richard will be remembered by his family and friends for his friendly smile and kind and generous spirit.
