MARY A. KASTENDIECK

Mary A. Kastendieck, joined her Lord and Savior, as well as her son, John, in heaven on October 9, 2022, at the age of 92.

Mary was born on December 3, 1929, to Frank and Agnes Liska. Her parents were from Bohemia and they spoke Czech at home. She grew up as an Iowa farm girl with her parents and two brothers. She often told stories of cooking, collecting eggs and other farm chores. Mary’s joy was found in her two children, John E. and Karen, whom she shared with former spouse, Ernest Kastendieck. She also was the most amazing grandmother to her five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Mary enjoyed a lively round of cards or checkers with her friends and grandchildren. She treated her family to amazing home cooked meals and desserts. In the summer, you could find her in the garden picking green beans. During her grandchildren’s school years she attended many concerts, games and special events.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Karen Kastendieck; daughter-in-law, Tina Kastendieck; grandchildren, John T. (Mandy) Kastendieck, Tina (Josh) Ridgely, Jameson (Danielle) Kastendieck, Teah (Brandon) Luety, Jared Kastendieck and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank and Agnes; brothers, Clarence and Edwin; and son, John E. Kastendieck.

A visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 AM on October 13, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 21st Ave N., Fort Dodge, Iowa. Service will begin at 11:00 AM, with a burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. The family will be hosting a luncheon at Good Shepherd following the burial. Arrangements are entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
