MICHAEL D. BROWN
CLARE — Michael D. Brown, 75, of Clare, died Sunday, November 27, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
A service honoring Michael’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Family interment services, with full military honors, will be held Friday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel. Visitation is 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Michael is survived by his wife Norine; his children, Keane (Sarah) Brown, of Fort Dodge, and their children, Kaden and Katelynn; Kelly (Jeff) Metzger, of Palmer, and their children, Joel and Justin; his daughter-in-law Elisa Brown, of Twin Lakes, Wis., and her children, Carley and Natalea; and his brother Martin (Nancy) Brown, of Bradgate. He was preceded in death by his son Cory Brown and his parents.
Michael David Brown, the son of Austin and Margaret Mary (Jenkins) Brown, was born December 25, 1946, in Fort Dodge. Austin met Margaret while he was serving in England during World War II, and she was a war bride from Malvern, England. Michael grew up in Bradgate and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1965. On October 22, 1966, Michael was united in marriage to Norine Olson at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was enlisted from 1967 to 1969. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He completed his service while living in Colorado Springs. The couple returned to Iowa and lived in the Des Moines area for eight years, where he worked for Dial Finance. They moved to Belmond where they lived for three years, and he worked at Printing Services Incorporated. They moved to their present home in Clare and Michael worked for Land O’ Lakes in the printing department for 25 years, before retiring as a supervisor in 1995. While living in Clare, he helped many friends on their farms and worked for three years for the postal service in Manson.
Michael enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He liked working on cars and tinkering in the garage. He enjoyed riding ATVs, being outdoors, doing some hunting and his beloved pets. Most importantly, he treasured time spent with family and friends. Michael will be remembered as a generous provider, husband, father, and grandfather.
