Dennis Eugene Andersen was born on June 15, 1943, in Humboldt. He was raised and educated there graduating from Humboldt High School in 1961. On August 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Dianne Hoops at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. They lived their entire lives in Humboldt raising three children: Debbie, Darcy and David.

Denny worked as an accountant in various businesses in Humboldt, which included working with Dave Bierdeman, Mark Brandsgaard and eventually landing at Blacktop Service Company until his retirement after 29 years of service there. Denny’s faith was extremely important to him, so he was a very active member of St. Mary’s Parish. He volunteered in various roles including doing the church books and singing in the choir. He also enjoyed being active in the community by being a member of the Noon Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, and singing in the Community Chorus for many years. Denny loved being outside, which included maintaining and keeping his lawn looking meticulous. However, his favorite activity was attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, usually letting them know he was watching with his special whistle. By working hard all his life, Denny instilled the value of a hard work ethic and the importance of family in his children.

Denny is survived by his children Deb (Dave) Place of Renwick, Darcy (Craig) Hickethier of Iowa Falls, David (Sheri) Andersen of Rockwell City, grandchildren Jacob and Jessica Place, Cody and Zach Hickethier, and Courtney and Torie Andersen, great-grandchildren Kyra and Kohen Place, brothers Joe Andersen, Jim (Janis) Andersen, Andy (Peggy) Andersen, his mother-in-law Vernice Hoops-Wagner, nephew Todd (Melanie) Andersen, nieces Kelli Andersen, Megan Andersen, Carissa (Mike) Hansen, along with several great nieces and nephews and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dianne, parents Jens and Fern (Olesen) Andersen, brother Ronnie Andersen, father-in-law Bill Hoops, sister-in-law Pat Andersen, grandparents Sam and Christina Olesen and Anton and Patrina Andersen, niece Shana Andersen, nephew Kirk Andersen, great niece Hope Andersen, and other loved family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Unity Point Hospice in Fort Dodge.
