Janet Lou Holst was born January 22, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to William and Luella Holst. She attended Trinity Lutheran School (Deer Creek) through grade school and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1959. Janet married Robert Kinne on April 8, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. They made their home on a farm near Vincent. They had two daughters, Beth and Barbara.
Janet worked at the Fort Dodge Community School District until she was married. Then she became a farm wife and “hired hand”. In 1986, she started working at Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, as an administrative assistant to the VP of Academic Affairs. Janet retired in 2000. Retirement didn’t slow Janet down. She was almost always creating something. Crocheting, knitting, embroidery and sewing kept her busy. She sewed costumes and outfits for the ICCC theater and choral departments. Her talent to make costumes and outfits for anyone was 2nd to none. Her crocheting and knitting helped her to create countless items for Terry’s Angels (a children’s charity).
Janet was also very involved in church activities. She was a member of the LWML and Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church, Vincent. She was also the secretary for the church council. After the closure of St. John’s, she was active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. There she was a member of Martha Circle.
She is survived by her husband Robert, daughters Beth McGonagle and Barbara (Anthony) Martin, grandchildren Aaron Martin, Stephanie Martin, Conor McGonagle, and Colin McGonagle, sister Shirley Bowman, brothers Ron (Sue) Holst and Paul (Katie) Holst as well as step-brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Holst and Luella Holst Berkland and step-father Reuben Berkland.
Janet felt blessed by all the care and love she received through her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
