Daniel Hickey

Daniel E. Hickey, 69, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Marsha; sisters, Therese (Kirk) Underwood and Donna (Tracy) Faith; brother David (Jody) Hickey; sister-in-law Sharon Hickey, all of Fort Dodge; brothers-in-law, Dennis Johnson of Fort Dodge, and Tom Caffery, of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews, Melissa Hickey, Christine Bigelow, Patrick Hickey, Matthew Hickey, Tony Underwood, Blair Underwood, Mercedes Larson, Emily Mason, Gavin Faith, Trevor Hickey, Emaria Hickey, Jared West, and Nicole Guild; many great-nieces and great-nephews, and son Joseph. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth E. and Mercedes A. (Baker) Hickey; brother, Thomas P. Hickey; in-laws, Howard B. and Helen B. (Fiala) Johnson; sister-in-law, JoAnn Caffery; and his grandparents.

Daniel E. Hickey was born on Dec. 7, 1954, in Fort Dodge. He grew up in northwest Fort Dodge and worked at his family’s business, Hickey’s Grocery, starting at age 4 stocking shelves. He married Marsha Johnson on April 10, 1981, in Fort Dodge. He worked at various grocery stores, Mark’s Auto Mart, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Sunkissed Meadows and Hertz Rent-A-Car, retiring in November of 2020. He loved traveling the U.S. with Marsha especially to Las Vegas, the Black Hills of South Dakota, going on Carnival Cruises and visiting national parks. He deeply loved his family and friends and enjoyed watching westerns, nature shows and the NFL, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
