Amin Al-Hameed

Amin Al-Hameed was born in Columbus, Georgia, transitioned to Fort Dodge, IA, and peacefully passed away in Minneapolis, MN, on December 9, 2024. He was 56 years old. Born on February 12, 1968, Amin was the fifth oldest of 16 children. He was the son of Wali and Tauheedah Al-Hameed.

Amin graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High and later attended Ellsworth Community College on a football scholarship. He later completed training at Iowa Central Community College to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and was the first African American EMT in Fort Dodge, IA, Trinity Regional Hospital. He worked multiple jobs in the Fort Dodge area to include Union Pacific Railroad, Van Diest Supply Co., and the John Morrell Meat Packing Plant. While in Minneapolis, he also was employed by multiple companies to include Bailey Construction, Interment Diecast, Highway Technologies, and time as an independent contractor. Amin was a member of the Laborers Union Hall Local 563. Amin loved being surrounded by family. He enjoyed playing basketball, playing the bongos, and golfing. He shared positive words with many people and frequently and freely blessed others with enlightening teaching moments. Amin loved educating people about real life experiences and religion with family, friends, and the people he crossed paths with. He was a motivator, influencer, teacher, counselor, confidant, friend, and above all, loved his family.

Amin leaves behind his wife Samantha Reeves; his sons Keelan, Muneer, and Quran; his daughters Akeela, Ebony, and Shakala; grandchildren, Jaylen, Jersi, Jacksyn, Taraj’i, CeMarr, Efrain, Leelan, Scarlett, Alistair, Kairo and Kizzie; brothers: Ahmad, Hamidullah (Terri), Hammad (Joelaine), Zakee (Melanie) and Waliyullah Al-Hameed; sisters, Ameedah, Aseelah, Wafa Wala, Nimat, Ziyadah (Don), Zarinah, and Nadirah. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Amin was preceded in death by his father, Wali M. Al-Hameed; sisters, Ulrica Lawson and Mahasin Al-Hameed (Short); grandparents, Joe and Blessit Pearl Newsome; uncles, MB Newsome, Lawrence Newsome, Philip Newsome, and Hasson Hameed; cousins, Curtsie Newsome, Angel Hameed, Daryl Cunningham, and Gregory Newsome.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2024, in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
