Lucille Hillman
Lucille (Lucy) Mary Hillman passed peacefully in her sleep in the morning of Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Fort Dodge, IA.
Lucille was born on December 15, 1938, to Paul and Edna Metz in Keota, IA. She grew up with her older sisters Lavera and Joyce on a farm outside of Keota and graduated from Keota High School in 1958. After high school, she moved to Des Moines and worked in insurance. In Des Moines, she met the love of her life, Keith, and they married on May 6, 1961. In the early years of their marriage, Lucy stayed home to raise their three sons: David, Ted, and Patrick.
Once the boys were older, she went back to work and worked in childcare for a while before finishing the last 15 years of her career at Fareway and retiring in 1997. Upon retirement, she traveled the country with her husband on baseball tours and cherished spending winters in Arizona with him. She adored spending time with her three grandchildren, Josh, Kai, and Rachel, and going to their various activities throughout Iowa. Throughout her life, she enjoyed any craft project she could get her hands on and spent her free time making quilts, embroidering, and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Edna Metz, her sisters Lavera (Hanraham) and Joyce (Grimes) and her son Patrick. She is survived by her husband, Keith, two of her sons David and Ted, and her grandchildren Josh, Kai, and Rachel.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
