Marta Kramer

Marta Karyn Kramer was born in Fort Dodge on October 19, 1950, the first child of Don and Cathy Windschanz. Their family expanded with three more daughters, Kim, Lisa, and Janet. Marta had an insatiable love for books, reading, and puzzles that lasted throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed the Girl Scouts, family camping, and long family vacations.

Marta graduated from FDSH, valedictorian of her Class, in 1968. She started college at Drake University, transferring to the University of Minnesota Pharmacy School where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology, with honors and awards, in 1970.

That same year she married James “Jim” Kramer and they settled in Fort Dodge to begin their professional careers, Marta as a pharmacist with Wiewel Drug and then at Daniel Drug, Jim as an attorney with the Johnson Law Firm.

Marta suspended her career to raise her three sons, Jeffrey, Gregory, and Charles. She was a wonderful mother, devoted to her sons and their educations. She served as President of Duncombe School PTA, Cub Scouts leader, den mother, and Sunday school teacher. Marta supervised and ran the scholastic book fair for many years. She joined PEO and TTT and served as President of the Blanden Memorial Art Museum. Marta was a life long member of First United Methodist Church.

Once her sons had left for college, she returned to her Pharmacy career at Disco Drug until her retirement in 2012. Her patients appreciated her professionalism and warm interest in their well-being.

Marta was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother to her four grandsons. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of a fifth grandson this coming Spring. She died in her sleep at her home on January 27 of 2025.

Marta Kramer is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Kramer; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Erika of Cary, North Carolina; Gregory and Lucie of Asheville, North Carolina; and Charles and Whitney of Denver, Colorado; her sisters, Kim Christianson and Janet Moeller; and her grandsons, Noah, Scott, Elliott, and James. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Cathy Windschanz; and her sister, Lisa.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 1 of 2025 at 10:30 am with a visitation from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church to support Children’s Sunday School Program.
