Richard Oberhelman
Richard “Dick” Oberhelman, 87, of Manson, peacefully passed away January 18, 2025, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025 after 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Weishaar Chapel in Manson. Cremation will follow the service with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Richard Louis Oberhelman, son of John and Blanche (Carstens) Oberhelman, was born August 1, 1937, in Calhoun County. He attended the Red Country School and graduated from Manson High School in 1955. On October 6, 1962, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Bohn, and the couple raised their three daughters on a farm near Manson. He was a board member for the Cattlemen’s Association and also the Manson School board, having the honor of presenting his daughters with their high school diplomas.
He was a dedicated farmer and cattle producer for over 70 years. Throughout his years he drove a school bus, worked for Fullerton Lumber, Redimix, Feed Fortifiers, Fiber Bodies and most recently for Certified Transmission driving 881,406 miles.
Richard's best days were spent mowing ditches, cutting and raking hay, and making friends and conversations with everyone he met. He loved going on tractor rides and treasured his dad's 1959 IH 560 that was recently restored.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Marilyn, his children, Lisa Lang, Kim (Paul) Quade, all of Manson, Kris (Bryan) Reicks of Newton. Papa Dick will be missed by his 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, his sister Mardella Bunger and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the charitable discretion of the family.
