Leona E. Cerwick

Leona “Lee” Cerwick, 89, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church until the start of the mass. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Lee is survived by her children Cheri Cerwick of Fort Dodge, Jim Cerwick of Des Moines, Rick (Julie) Cerwick of Waukee, Cindy (Gary) Doss of Johnstown, CO, Terry (Shelly) Cerwick of Statesboro, GA, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three and growing great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Katherine (Dobmeier) Wingert, husband Kenneth in 2021, infant daughter Theresa Marie Cerwick, grandson Shawn Crimmins, siblings Lucille Wingert, Mary Butler, Edna Meehan, and Leo Wingert, Lillian Genrich, Frances Wingert, Lois Barry, Vera Cerwick, Rita Fay, and Agnes Bradley.

Leona E. Wingert was born August 20,1935 in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from FDSH in 1953. On February 5, 1955, Leona was married to Kenneth Cerwick at Sacred Heart Church and the couple made Fort Dodge their home. Lee worked for Webster County Homemaker Health Aide Service, known as North Central Health Care, until retiring as the Director in 1986.

Lee enjoyed time in Arizona with her husband Ken along with quilting, reading, listening to music, collecting miniatures and doll houses and computer games.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the family’s discretion.
