Melroy Hansen

Melroy Hansen, 85, passed away with his wife by his side on February 10, 2025, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Church in Fort Dodge, IA, on Monday, February 17 at 3:30 PM.

Mel, son of Melvin and Viola (Albers) Hansen was born on March 17, 1939, in Rochester, MN. Both of his parents were deaf so he was raised on a farm by his aunt and uncle until his pre-teen years when he joined his parents in Webster City, IA.

On December 21, 1967, Mel was united in marriage to Faye (Buffy) Franker in Fort Dodge, IA. The couple had a long adventurous life together. Mel spent over 30 years as a carpet layer but he is best known for his Shamrock Charter business. He organized the trips and was a well-liked driver.

Mel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Buffy; his children, Rusty (Tatyana) Hansen, Robby (Debbie) Franker, Reggy Hansen, Debbie (Andy) O’Neil, Debby (Dan) Pruismann, Heidi Hansen; 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; younger brother, Dale Hansen; and daughter, Dawn Franker-Hansen.

The family extends appreciation to Dr. Sahai for his years of compassion and service and the Hospice staff for his end of life care and dignity they showed him.
