Clarence Dale “Red” St. John, 97, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Clarence “Red” is survived by his children Linda Ulstad, Steve St. John both of Fort Dodge, and Jeff (Linda) St. John of Savannah, MO, 7 grandchildren, Janelle (Alex) Carstensen, Allison (Jerid) Zuspann, Josh St. John, Jessica (Jason) St. John, Jaci Fergison, Jenny Fergison, and Jill (Chad) Silcott, 9 great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Lois (Harold) Rost and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clare and Agnes, wife Phyllis in 2014, brother Ray and sister Marjorie, son-in-law Jon Ulstad.

Clarence “Red” St. John, the son of Clare and Agnes, was born March 1, 1927, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. After attending school in Fort Dodge and Eagle Grove, he enlisted in the Navy from 1944-1947. Upon returning to Fort Dodge he met and married Phyllis Hedrick of LuVerne, Iowa. Red was employed with Hormel for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

In his early years he was busy bowling, coaching Teener League ball, playing fast pitch softball, along with umpiring high school girls’ softball and high school baseball. Red was inducted into the Fort Dodge Softball Hall of Fame in 1993. His later years he enjoyed traveling with family, attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities and woodworking. He took pride in his garden. His annual fishing trip to Leech Lake along with many summer weekends at Okoboji with family was his favorite. Red felt fortunate he was able to stay in his own home they built in 1955 until the end.

We appreciate the wonderful care he received at Friendship Haven and the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home during his final days. At his request, no services.
