Richard Sotzen

He was born on December 10, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Dorance and Julia (Ulicki) Sotzen. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1955, and married Elizabeth “Betty” Swanson in 1957. He was employed by Hormels for 25 years, both in Fort Dodge and Dallas, Texas, and then as a machine mechanic in Dallas for over 18 years before returning to Fort Dodge in 2000. He enjoyed time in his workshop with his motorcycles, woodworking and repairing antique clocks and pocket watches that he had collected.

Richard is survived by his three sons: Jeff (Carla) Sotzen, Mike (Vicki) Sotzen and Chris Sotzen; two grandsons, Cole and Cody Sotzen; and two great-grandsons, Landyn and Beckham Sotzen, all residing in Texas. He is also survived by his sister Janet Dencklau. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Don and Robert and sister Karen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., March 8th, at the Gunderson Funeral Home. Military honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and V.F.W. Post No. 1856.
