Gary was born on November 27th, 1937, to Keith and Avis LeValley in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1955 where he met his beloved wife of 66 years, Joan (Shultz) LeValley. Gary attended the University of Iowa and graduated Medical School with his Doctorate in 1962. He was a revered family practice physician in Fort Dodge from 1965-2000. Gary enjoyed all aspects of family practice, especially bringing new life into the world. He fondly referred to his life work as “womb to tomb.”

With family and faith as his guiding compass, he tirelessly served his community. Some of his professional contributions include serving 24 years on the Fort Dodge Medical Center Board of Directors, with the last 17 years as President. He initiated the Department of Occupational Health in 1995 and served as physician for Fort Dodge Animal Health, Fort Dodge Schools, and Iowa Central Community College. He also served on the Board of Directors for Friendship Haven, Trinity Regional Hospital and Iowa Health Systems. Gary was the Medical Director for Trimark Corporate Health, and worked with Locum Tenems Trimark Corporate Health and Trinity Regional Hospital.

Gary enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, family vacations and Hawkeye sports, but he was most proud of being a husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Gary is survived by his wife Joan; his children Lori (Kirk) VanKirk of Panora, IA: Sheryl (Robert) Schultz of Eagle, CO, Kimberly Nagle of Flower Mound, TX; Bradley (Rachel) LeValley of Fort Collins, CO; his sister Julie Wilken and brother Jim LeValley; 11 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids, with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bob and Dick, and his son-in-law Steve Nagle.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Friendship Haven or First United Methodist Church of Fort Dodge.
