Thomas Brainerd

Thomas A. “Tom” Brainerd, 89, of Fort Dodge, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Sunday, March 30, 2025, at his residence.

Cremation rites have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Tom is survived by his wife Marilyn; his son Tim (Jana) Brainerd, and their children, Ashley (Adam) and Alex (Marina), and their grandchildren, Samantha, Justin and Sophie; and his daughter Tami Brainerd (Kevin) Grieve, and their children, Christine (Zach), Brian (Jessie), and Casey, and their grandchildren, Cole, Quinn, Tate, and Liam, all of Colorado; and one brother Jim Brainerd, of Bettendorf. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Mary Brainerd Gasho and Dee Brainerd.

Thomas Allen Brainerd, the son of Delbert and Coral (Allen) Brainerd, was born December 16, 1935, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1954. He attended Fort Dodge Community College where he played baseball, and also the University of Iowa. Tom served in the Iowa Air National Guard for six years. In 1959, Tom was united in marriage to Marilyn Rogers in Estherville with whom he spent nearly 66 years. Tom worked for Brokaw Supply Company for 44 years, retiring as the office manager.

Tom was a faithful member while serving at First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, and for more than 60 years traveled to one of his favorite spots in northern Minnesota for family vacations. He was a volunteer with PICA and enjoyed doing outside work. Tom especially treasured, and was always most grateful, for time spent with his family.
