Coaches are thankful for youth football season

To the editor:

The Fort Dodge Senior High Football coaching staff would like to publicly thank the Fort Dodge football community for their efforts in putting on a successful youth football season for our fifth and sixth grade students in the Fort Dodge community. Players played a full youth season that consisted of many weeks of practices and five games. All of the games were played inside historic Dodger Stadium. The successes did not come from the wins or the touchdowns scored, rather, they came from the lessons that were taught to these young men by their coaches, fellow teammates, and parents. Coaches, parents, and players showed the utmost class and dignity throughout the season, and for that, you deserve a public applause.

To the volunteer coaches, thank you for your time, patience, and all that you did with the boys this fall. Fort Dodge football is fortunate and honored to have head coaches Heath Richardson, Bill Smith, Andy Kavanaugh, Dan Doster, Adam Sankey and Chris Porter as coaches for our third season. Watching you connect and teach our future players and working with our staff was a win for Dodger football. Parents, thank you for getting your players to practice, making late-night meals, and, most importantly, the support you gave your son. Finally, to the players, football needs all kinds of players: tall, fast, big, and small; football is safer than it has ever been. We want you out for football, as well as other sports. Do not ever let someone tell you that you are not fast enough, tough enough, or good enough…because you’re a Dodger! We look forward to seeing you in a Dodger uniform next fall.

Please look for sign up information for next year in May 2023 through your school and Parks and Recreation. Our goal is to increase our numbers and promote the game of football in our community.
