Walk-off homer for Dubuque Wahlert’s Roth
Julia Roth sent the Dubuque Wahlert softball team into the Class 3A semifinals with a moment she’ll never forget.
The sophomore hit a walk-off solo home run to propel the Golden Eagles past Sumner-Fredericksburg-Tripoli here Monday night at Rogers Park, 9-8 in eight innings.
After erasing a 5-1 deficit with a six-run fourth, Dubuque Wahlert (30-10 overall) was pushed to extras when the Cougars plated three in the sixth.
The Golden Eagles will now play Williamsburg on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. on Channel Seeds Field.
Anna Roling also had a home run for Dubuque Wahlert, who had hit 30 homers coming into the game. The junior was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Ruth Tauber and Roth both had two hits and scored five combined runs.
Roth also earned the win, striking out eight.
For Sumner-Fredericksburg (33-4), Jamie Jones drove in three and Erin Steege had three hits. The Cougars will take on Monroe-PCM in a consolation game Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. on Yankee Field.
