MANSON — Zach Rossmanith put in the time in the offseason, and now, the St. Edmond senior is starting to see the benefits.

Rossmanith earned a silver-medal finish at the Doug Wood Invitational on Saturday.

Teammate Sam Myer (138) placed third.

Woodbury Central (187) was the team champion, followed by Ogden (182), Alta-Aurelia (139.5), South Central Calhoun (132.5) and Ridge View (126.5).

“We had a very solid three weeks of practice,” said St. Edmond head coach Eugene Carlson. “We worked on the basics and the kids came out focused. We just wanted to keep it simple and we made it work.”

Rossmanith (3-1) used three falls to reach the finals. He had two first period falls to reach the finals to go along with a fall in 3:34 over Cohl Burdette of Ogden in the semifinals.

He lost a tight 4-2 decision to Blake Myrtue of Ridge View in the 190-pound final.

“Zach put in a lot of work in the offseason,” Carlson said. “He came in really focused.

“We weren’t able to pull out the win in the finals. But like he said, it’s the first tournament he placed in — baby steps.”

Myer (3-1) reached the semifinals with a 15-9 decision over Ridge View’s Cole Bloyer. He fell by fall in the semifinals before bouncing back with a third period and second period fall.

“With Sam, I just let him do what he does,” Carlson said. “He has to improve on his feet, because when you get him down on the mat, he’s tough to beat.

“He just has to stay focused and move forward.”

South Central Calhoun came away with three champions. Kolin Folsom (126), Brock Nattress (157) and Jace Pedersen (285) claimed titles.

Folsom earned a 12-2 major decision over Declan Munro of Woodbury Central in the finals. Mattress pinned Keyton Remsburg of South Hamilton in the finals and Pedersen stuck Karson Ockerman of Alta-Aurelia for the title.

Zachary Trott (138) lost by fall to Holden Koele of Woodbury Central to place second.

Keaton Wittrock (106) brought home the top finish for the Cougars. Wittrock beat Nathan Benedix of Woodbury Central by fall (2:53) in the third place match.
