Humboldt fights to share of NCC soccer title
WEBSTER CITY — The ninth-ranked (Class 2A) Humboldt boys soccer team secured a piece of a third straight North Central Conference title here Thursday night on the home pitch of their rival.
Behind goals from Gaige Allen and Nolan Gustafson, the Wildcats downed Webster City, 2-1, splitting the season series between the two.
Humboldt (12-1 overall, 11-1 in NCC) won the title outright in 2022 and shared it with the Lynx (13-1, 11-1) last year.
Eduardo Perez had the lone goal for No. 3 Webster City, who had not scored fewer than two goals in a game this season before the loss. That result came in a 2-1 win over Humboldt late last month.
The Wildcats, who have won five straight since that defeat, open Class 2A postseason play on Monday, May 20 at home versus either Panorama or Greene County in a regional semifinal.
Webster City plays either South Tama or Hampton-Dumont/CAL that same night.
