McElroy, Mericle compete at districts
LE MARS — St. Edmond’s Jack McElroy and Ty Mericle competed in a Class 1A district golf meet on Monday.
“These two have two and three years left,” said St. Edmond head coach Matt Dillon. “They are competing at the highest level and earning valuable experience.
“On the ride they were looking at previous records and getting really excited about what they can do.”
The sophomore and freshman didn’t earn state spots, but grabbed valuable experience.
McElroy shot an 81 and had the eighth best score.
Mericle had an 88 for the Gaels.
“He (McElroy) has really tuned in toward the end of the season,” Dillon said. “He has gotten so much better and so has his confidence.
“Ty has grabbed a hold of this and been very steady.”
Bishop Garrigan’s Ethan Kuper qualified for state as the runner up with a 74.
Bishop Heelan’s Trey Van Roekel was the district champion with a 73.
North Union’s Drew Henderson also earned a state bid, with a 74.
