St. Edmond girls host district golf meet
Lake Mills and Bishop Garrigan advanced through the first round of girls regionals here Friday at Lakeside Golf Course.
Behind Avery Lichter’s medalist round of 80, the Golden Bears placed second overall to the Bulldogs. North Union’s Amelia Fothergill was an individual district qualifier.
Lake Mills, Bishop Garrigan and Fothergill head to a Class 1A district meet on Wednesday hosted by Nashua-Plainfield at Nashua Town and Country Club.
For St. Edmond, Ellie Driscoll shot 100 and Nora Lee 121. Driscoll, who finished tied for seventh, had a 49 on the front with one par and four bogeys while Lee, who was 27th, recorded six bogeys on her day.
“I’m so proud of the way the girls played, especially Ellie,” SEHS head coach Kelsey Felch said. “Ellie has grown so much in the last four years and she was so close to making it to the next round.
“Each girl on the team this year has improved tremendously, both from previous years and from the beginning of the season. This has been an amazing stretch of coaching enthusiastic coachable players and I’m proud of all of them on and off the course.”
Lichter fired a 38 on the front behind six pars before adding two birdies on the back to lead the Golden Bears. Teammate Hanna Merron finished tied for ninth with a 103 and Reece Kemna was 12th with a 104.
Ava Snider placed 14th, Isabella Waechter was tied for 19th and Addison Kuper finished tied for 23rd to round out the scoring for Garrigan.
Fothergill had a 99 with teammates Alexis Cummins and Beth Streuber each firing 111s tied for 17th. Allyah Jones finished tied for 21st, Hannah Nielsen was 33rd and Lexi Anderson placed 36th.
West Bend-Mallard’s low round came from Emma Weydert, as her total of 105 left her in 13th place. Avery Weydert tied for 21st, Neleigh Almond tied for 23rd, Maddie Morey tied for 25th, Kiera Flynn was 31st and Paige Frerk 34th overall.
Joining the qualifiers will be Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, Dyersville Beckman, South Winneshiek and Turkey Valley.
