WAITING GAME
The fourth-ranked Iowa Central baseball team will have to play the wait-and-see game now.
Facing elimination in the Region XI Tournament at Rogers Park this past Saturday, the Tritons were unable to get going, falling to Kirkwood, 13-3 in five innings. The loss knocked Iowa Central (46-13 overall) out of the bracket following two consecutive defeats.
The Eagles used a four-run first to take control of the contest, adding three more runs in the second. Leading 7-3, they exploded for six in the fifth to end the game early.
Addison Binnie had a home run and drove in four with Ethan Bowers, Cal Sullivan and Binnie each recording two hits. Bowers, Brayden Hellum, Clayton Campidilli, Alex Ritzer and Binnie all scored two runs each.
Andrew Carroll went the distance, striking out six with six hits allowed and no walks to earn his eighth win of the season on the mound for Kirkwood.
Peter Johnson drove in two for the Tritons with Jack Mausser and Harrison Bowman each recording a hit and a run scored. Bowman also had an RBI.
Iowa Central will hope for an at-large bid to the NJCAA Div. II Tournament. Two of those will be handed out once districts are decided.
