Wildcats earn state berth
For the first time since 2015, the Humboldt boys golf squad is headed back to the state tournament.
The Wildcats became a Class 3A qualifier on Monday thanks to a district runner-up performance at the Carroll Country Club.
Behind brothers Carson and Parker Sleiter, Humboldt carded a 302 as a team. MOC-Floyd Valley (293) was the winner, followed by the Wildcats and North Polk (306).
Carson Sleiter, a senior, carded a four-over par 74 (39-35) and placed fourth. Parker Sleiter, a junior, was right behind in fifth at five-over 75 (41-34).
Senior Corey Dettmann (41-35–76) and freshman Cade Birdsell (39-38–77) followed for Humboldt, which has advanced to state for the 17th time in program history. All four counters were in the Top-8 individually.
Senior Carson Arndt (43-37–80) and junior Cyler Cirks (45-40–85) rounded out the scorecard.
This will be Humboldt’s fourth appearance since 1996.
MOC-FV’s Carson Korver (2-under 68) was the meet medalist, followed by North Polk’s Jacob Eagan (1-under 69).
Webster City was led by Trevyn Lyons (45-39–84) and Luke Firsching (44-41–85). Algona’s Nathan Manske carded an 81.
