Sandy grabs ICCAC softball accolades

Aleena Sandy concluded her career with Iowa Central softball by earning top honors from the ICCAC.

Sandy was tabbed to the all-region first team as a catcher, the conference announced.

The sophomore had 26 hits in league games including nine home runs. Sandy committed just three errors and had 106 putouts from behind the plate.

Sandy led the team with 13 homers in 40 games, driving in 36 while recording a slugging percentage of .815, which also led the Tritons.

Earning second team honors were Kennedy Palmer, Breanna Nolte, former Humboldt standout Alexis Hansen, Morgan Weeks, Gabriella Taber and Jayda Long. Emma Hoyle, Abagail Winter, Kaylee Cary and Calli Schnell were honorable mention selections.

Hansen, a sophomore, hit .402 with 19 doubles, six homers and 53 RBI while stealing nine bases. She had a .476 on-base percentage and recorded 21 walks.

Long was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Midwest all-region first team with Sandy and Palmer making second-team.

Iowa Central went 37-21 this past spring and finished fourth in the conference standings. They reached a regional championship game before falling to Kirkwood.
