Area cross country teams target FD
The next two days will decide who gets to continue their cross country season at Lakeside in Fort Dodge versus who packs up the gear for the rest of the year.
State-qualifying meets are scheduled around Iowa, with Class 4A and 3A happening on Wednesday. The 2A and 1A competitors race on Thursday.
The state championships are set for next week in Fort Dodge from Lakeside Golf Course with 4A and 3A on Friday, Nov. 1 and 2A and 1A on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Fort Dodge will travel to Marshalltown for a 4A meet, running alongside the host Bobcats, Ankeny Centennial, Dallas Center-Grimes, Davenport Central, Des Moines Lincoln, Mason City, Norwalk and Ottumwa.
Other 4A host site schools on Wednesday are Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, Dubuque Senior, Pleasant Valley and Southeast Polk.
St. Edmond is ranked 14th in 1A for girls and 16th for boys. The Gaels head to Manly for a meet hosted by Central Springs.
Running with SEHS will be Bishop Garrigan, North Union, Janesville, Lake Mills, Madrid, Mason City Newman, Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, North Iowa, Northwood-Kensett, Riceville, Rockford, Saint Ansgar, Wapsie Valley and West Hancock.
Emmetsburg and Newell-Fonda will be competing in a qualifier hosted by Ridge View on Thursday. ACGC, Central Decatur, North Linn, Pleasantville, Iowa City Regina and South Hamilton serve as the other sites.
Area 3A schools Algona and Humboldt head to Gilbert on Wednesday, while Webster City is at Waverly-Shell Rock. Harlan, Pella and Solon are the remaining sites.
State qualifiers from each site for 4A, 3A and 2A are the best three teams and Top-15 individual finishers. The 1A sites see the first two teams and Top-10 individuals advance.
The co-ed state meet is next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2, in Fort Dodge.
