Bears pass first test
ALGONA — Win No. 21 in a row came easy for Bishop Garrigan, but it’s only going to get tougher for the defending eight-man champions.
Top-ranked Algona (9-0 overall) blew past Tripoli (3-6) on Friday night for a 62-15 victory in an eight-player postseason opener.
The Bulldogs had 407 yards of total offense, with 207 coming on the ground.
“We were ready to go,” said Garrigan head coach Marty Wadle. “It gets harder round by round, so we will have to wait and see who we get.
“We got through it healthy and we will be back at home.”
Tate Foertsch threw for 170 yards on an efficient 9-for-10 passing and three touchdown strikes.
He connected with Trayton Cink (48 yards), Owen Murphy (nine) and Murphy (24) again.
Murphy added another touchdown, returning a kickoff 75 yards to paydirt.
The Golden Bears had five rushing touchdowns. Ethan Marso scored twice, once from six and another from four. Cink (12 yards), Issac DeLange (46) and Carter McGregor (two) also ran in scores.
Cink finished the night with 103 yards, while DeLange had 61 and Marso 49.
On the defensive side, Marso and Madden Miller had nine tackles each, while Andrew Lichter had eight and Carter Schwab had seven.
