Gaels advance to regional semis
COON RAPIDS — The St. Edmond volleyball team advanced to a regional semifinal with a convincing sweep over Coon Rapids-Bayard here Wednesday night.
Scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-18.
The Gaels (19-11 overall) will now take on sixth-ranked BCLUW Monday in a Class 1A, Region 5 semifinal. BCLUW (29-10) swept Madrid last night to move on.
Mariah Myers recorded 19 kills and Ava Underberg added eight, with Lauren Gibb registering seven and Chloe Palmer picking up five. Gibb also contributed six blocks and three aces, and teammate Sasha Hess recorded three aces.
Claire O’Connor had 34 assists on the evening.
“I am so proud of these girls,” SEHS head coach Heather Seeden said. “Due to illness, this is the first time all the girls have been together in a week and it was a really good feeling. The way they support and hype each other up is a lot of fun.
“Lauren has been lights out blocking at the net lately, which has really given us an extra edge.”
Coon Rapids-Bayard (23-6) topped Audubon to advance earlier this week and had won five in a row before running into St. Edmond.
